Leeds Library performances, 21st & 28th November

Hello All,

Just a quick reminder about the show I’ve been working on with the wonderful A Quiet Word. The piece is called The Book in my Head is Now on the Page and it’ll be happening at The Leeds Library on Commercial Street on the evenings of the 21st and 28th of November. It’s a promenade performance and the Show lasts for about twenty minutes.

The piece was originally performed as part of Leeds Light Night 2011 and IMHO is rather fantastic. Here’s a brief description:

“The event begins on Commercial Street, as the shops are closing on a Friday evening.  Twilight -  the city is settling into a different rhythm and you are outside the Library – which should surely be closed also by now.  But you are expected – an administrator takes your details, another  issues you with an electronic swipe card and  shows you how to enter.  At either side of the entrance, which you may never have noticed before, behind the glass windows of a bank on one side and a stationer on the other,  burlesque dancers are typing manuscripts to a soundtrack you can just make out through the glass.    This is a visit to a library of your dreams, open to you alone, when the rest of the city is heading home or meeting friends for a drink or dinner.   When you find yourself in the lobby, a welcoming committee congratulates you, assures you that you are not late, but asks you please to make your way  upstairs..  as you enter the main body of the library, you realise that you are the author of the book which is to be launched this evening.  Just one small matter – crucial pages are missing.  Your task is to find the missing text and insert it, before the rest of the guests arrive…

Authors of the Book are welcomed in groups of 9 between 5.30 pm and 7.45 pm each evening. Places are booking up fast so if you’d like to come along, you could either book a place via facebook , by ringing the library directly on 0113 245 3071 or e-mailing them at enquiries@theleedslibrary.org.uk

Or you could drop me a line and let me know if you’d like to come.

Hope to see you there,

Matthew x
